Dazzling Drain Fly
These tiny flies circle drains and are also known as owl midges as they're supposed to look like owls. Some think they look like moths, so moth fly is another name for them. Bats gobble them up. The drains are guffawing today as we've had repeated cloudbursts.
Today's poem is Fall after Rilke by Robin Robertson.
A poem about autumn from a collection about grief and age. RR's version is very close to the original written by German Rainier Maria Rilke who died in 1926. When RR was in France checking his proofs the Twin Towers fell. RR checked the date that Rilke's original was written, it was on September 11th 1902. Though RR's poem was written before 9/11 its images resonate with the dreadful date. https://firstknownwhenlost.blogspot.com/2012/09/two-autumns.html
