Ye are many, they are few ..........

Sometimes you have to look up to notice things. And sometimes you have to look down.

A series of granite sets mark the position of the high altar of the long gone St Peter's Church. They are easily missed. 

The area around the old church was known as Peter's Fields. And 198 years ago it was the scene of an event that saw armed cavalry charge a crowd of unarmed men and women, killing fifteen and wounding over six hundred. The Peterloo Massacre.

And that led Percy Bysshe Shelley to write one of his most famous poems, The Mask of Anarchy. I have always liked the beginning of the second verse:

I met Murder on the way -
He had a mask like Castlereagh .....


Is there another poem which features a British foreign secretary ? I cannot think that Boris Johnson deserves a serious poem. Maybe a not very good limerick ?
