St Patrick's in the Cowgate
Built in the early eighteenth century as an Episcopal Church - now one of the best loved RC Churches in Scotland. The facade dates from the 1920's.
The Cowgate was a very poor part of the city.
Notables: Hibernian Football Club was founded in 1875 by the parish priest of the time - Canon Hannon. He was also the first manager.
The body of the Venerable Margaret Sinclair was moved from a local cemetery to its own shrine here a few years ago. ( I had coffee this week with the funeral director responsible for the task.) Margaret was a parishioner of St Patrick's, a simple and devout factory worker who became a num. She is close to canonisation they say.
