Royal sign - of the times

I saw this 'Royal charter of appointment' sign outside a carpet finishing firm's premises in East Kilbride today.
The image struck me as bizarre in as much as the sign is an intricate piece of work, proudly displayed but the protective mesh of the vandal proof cage had the adverse effect of obscuring much of its beauty.

A necessary, but sad, sign of the times.
