Looking out

Today is the first anniversary of my darling grandmother's death. She gave me this mug when I was about 6 or 7, 40 or so years ago now. It has survived boarding school, university and transatlantic travel - it had an Easter egg in it originally and has always been the perfect volume of whatever it is I like to drink. Not chic exactly but a cherished bit of my past.

She was an amazing woman. She lost her husband on DDay and just this morning I rediscovered copies of letters that my grandfather had written in May of 1944 saying how he was longing to come home to be with her. She never remarried.

I am about to call my family and we will all reminicse. Mostly about how incredibly FUNNY she was, with wry Northern wit.
