..... just in case it rains
We had a lovely supper last night in the medieval town of Guimaraes, the cradle of the Portuguese nation. We sat in a square surrounded by old buildings with occasional pippistrella bat flitting by just to remind us of the august surroundings we were in.
Today we have moved out to the Atlantic coast to the fishing port town of Viana do Castillo. We are staying in a beautiful old town house in a pedestrianised area of the old town. It took a bit of finding as there are two streets of the same name, it caused a certain amount of hilarity as we tried to converse with builders, farmers on tractors, and various others in English, Italian and French and them in return in Portuguese and finally broken English, what lovely people. There is a furious wind blowing, l think the remnants of Harvey. We have booked a fish restaurant down by the fishing wharves for supper, if we don't get blown away.
The photo is of a little street we wandered down on an afternoon stroll, the extra is of a folk group getting ready for a festival which starts tonight - at midnight!
