A slice of Lesley's life

In good company

"My idea of good company, Mr Elliot, is the company of clever, well-informed people, who have a great deal of conversation; that is what I call good company."

A real treat of an evening with my neighbour, Elizabeth, kicking off the Chiswick Book Festival weekend with an evening discussing Jane Austen at Chiswick House. The host was Torin Douglas and the guests were: the curator of Chiswick House giving some interesting cultural context, Imogen Stubbs doing some readings including a very funny letter she wrote as homework for Emma Thompson and Ang Lee when she was in Sense & Sensibility and two authors who have written books about Austen: Helena Kelly and Paula Byrne. I especially enjoyed the contributions by Paula, so much so I bought her book and here she is signing it. A really fun evening.

The other highlight of my day proved, yet again, that I am essentially a child...the dentist praised my teeth cleaning and it made me extraordinarily happy. Didn't offer me a sticker mind....
