Bremen Town Hall and Cathedral
We took a day trip from Hamburg to Bremen. There are a lot of great sights to check out in Bremen, such as the market square area (with the Town hall, Cathedral, Church of Our Lady with beautiful stained-glass windows, and statues of Roland and the Town Musicians, etc.), historical Schnoor neighbourhood, Böttscherstrasse and the historical weigh house. In addition to them, we also saw the windmill in a downtown park and dropped by in the vibrant Viertel district.
When we arrived back to the Bremen railway station, we found out that all train traffic from Bremen was cancelled due to storm damage (we experienced some fairly strong wind at a couple of points during the day, but I wouldn't guess there was that much damage) and no substitutive busses could be arranged. Fortunately my brother managed to book two tickets to Hamburg online from an "inter-European"/"intercity bus company". That bus turned out to be an hour and 10 minutes late from schedule (we arrived in Hamburg around 11:30 P.M.), but since we hadn't bought train tickets in advance, didn't have anything important scheduled in Hamburg that night or early the following day, and the weather was relatively warm outside at night, there was no real damage done. In fact, the bus ride was cheaper than the train would've been, we got to see the market square in night lighting and had some nice tapas in a local restaurant, so I'd say it almost evens out.
