Alltbeithe Youth Hostel, Glen Affric

A stunning place to stay up this very remote glen in the West Highlands. However, the weather has been rain, rain and more rain. Despite the terrible weather, we climbed the two local Munros, as we had intended, braving the cold wind and the rain (didn't I mention it was seriously wet?). Then to compound things on the way down, I stepped on a large rock in one the the raging burns and it rolled over, dumping me in it. Fortunately, a combination of already being so wet and also decent waterproofs, kept my slightly dryer core the same way. But I sloshed back to the hostel, where the tea was on and the stoves were blazing.

There was a couple of high points to the day. Firstly, a Golden Eagle flew right over us as we were climbing up, giving us a good eyeball in case we had any small children along with us, and we did get a couple of minor breaks in the cloud, when we could suddenly see a hint of the sun and maybe a tiniest glimpse of blue sky.

This ranks as our wettest day on the hills to date. We would have chosen to stay in and read a book, but alas, we had booked the hostel and it was do it or come back another day, complete with the day long walks in and out.
