Piazza Vecchia, Bergamo
A visit to Bergamo today as we are meeting friends for lunch in Bergamo Alto. The journey over was fairly quick, there were lots of cyclists on the lake road, but all heading north, while we were going south.
There was a bit of a queue to get the funicular for Bergamo Alto. It took us about half an hour to get to Alto. There are masses of people wearing green t-shirts.
We had a pleasant lunch at Il Sole and then had a walk around the old city, visiting several churches. As the afternoon progressed the shops started to open and there were many people out for an evening stroll.
We decided to head back down to the lower city where we stopped for coffee. Our friends then departed. We had decided to stay overnight. After checking in to our hotel and a short rest we headed out in the hunt for somewhere to eat. We eventually struck lucky finding quite a nice restaurant not too far from our hotel.
After dinner on the return to the hotel it started to rain, but unlike the other day we did not get too wet. We passed a large street market with masses of stalls selling what, well we didn't really look, food and drink for sure, but no doubt much else besides. We could not help noticing the market was protected by large concrete blocks.
