Memorial Chapel
Following our visit to High Royds last month, today we visited the High Royds Memorial Chapel - Menston.
Hard to realise that here the remains of 2,861 Pauper Patients of High Royds Hospital lie buried in unmarked graves. The graveyard opened in 1890 and the last burial took place in 1969. To facilitate the number of bodies, most of the graves are three deep.
The chapel and the surrounding graveyard was in a very dilapidated state until the Friends of High Royds Memorial Garden came along in 2007. They have done a magnificent job.
