Tuesday: Dawson From Above
We had a few presentations this morning on the Yukon - all really interesting as the way of life is just so different up there. We also got to see a recently discovered musk ox skull, believed to be 25,000 years old.
Following that, we saw an old gold mine and were taken to do a bit of gold panning. I got two flakes of gold and will now set about finding a private island to buy and retire to.
The flight back to Whitehorse was amazing. As the aircraft was chartered for this trip, the pilot took a detour and flew us over an amazing mountain range. I've included a couple of shots in extras - at one point the wing tips felt a little close to the peaks but I guess the pilot knew what he was doing!
A brief turnaround in Whitehorse before flying back to Vancouver.
The Yukon is amazing - the whole territory only has 38,000 people, 30,000 of whom live in Whitehorse. You can see from this that Dawson is pretty tiny, and once you leave it, there's nothing near it for hundreds of miles.
