Churros
So, to celebrate opening for the year, the Uni decided to close for the day. Instead of taking the opportunity to sleep, or perhaps get ahead with some studying, the obvious way to spend an afternoon was going for churros.
It doesn't matter how many travel guides you buy for Madrid, or how many locals you ask about the best places to get some good Churros here; the unanimous recommendation is the 'Chocolateria San Gines'.
Somewhat hidden away, down a winding sidestreet similar to one you would find in Edinburgh, the Chocolateria is extremely welcoming on a Madrid rainy day (the second of which we've had in the last week). Upon arrival, you are met with the smell of rich hot chocolate and the sight of freshly made churros being carried in piles to nearby tables.
Although the service was a bit confusing at first, and the instructions for ordering hidden on the wall above the stairs, we finally sorted out what to do and were quickly presented with six crispy, freshly made churros and hot chocolate to go with them.
The chocolateria itself is rustic and has a very touristy feel to it, especially the downstairs. All in all, definitely worth a visit!
