Sandwood beach
After a very wet morning on a boat catching wee troot we headed to a cafe to have some coffee and a free warm up. It was ideal as the internet was free and so we did some admin as our teeth stopped chattering!!! Then we decided the fishing was probably over for the day and we headed up to Kinlochbervie to find a sandy beach to walk on and this is where we ended up. Sandwood beach.. l believe it is the last beach accessible by road (and a 10 minute walk) before Cape Wrath. A huge heavy rainstorm got us from behind as we descended to the shore so we hid where the sheep hide behind a large lump of rock until it passed. The see was tumultuous. the waves, though they don't look it here, were 3-4 foot high and bright green as they rose up before breaking.. the horizon was navy blue with blinding white patches where the sun was breaking through the clouds. The far distant islands along the coast were visible because of the spray and the crashing of the waves on their cliffs.. altogether totally beautiful. We had a happy walk along collecting shells and were pleasantly surprised at the lack of debris on the sand.. no plastics and bottles that we could see.. perhaps someone collects them regularly or maybe this is the magic of low tourism in these parts. Either way. .. it was a beautiful beach
