Riga, Latvia
We spent today in Riga, Latvia. A fascinating city that has seen its fair share of invasions and occupations over the centuries. We took a walking tour of the Old Town, with its lovely old buildings -- medieval churches, warehouses, 17th century houses, and many stunning Art Nouveau buildings as well. Pictured are some structures built in the 1600's, along with a classic Soviet style sculpture commemorating Latvian freedom fighters. We also went through the old Jewish ghetto and saw the old KGB headquarters -- now a museum related to that grim era in Latvian history.
We were really lucky with the weather today, with bright blue skies and brilliant sunshine!
