Window Wednesday - Colston Hall
I heard on the news that a new mural by local artist Voyder had been painted on the relatively new and soon to be renovated Bristol Colston Hall lobby, so I took Morrigan down for a look. The main hall was opened in 1867, and has hosted many musical events from the greatest names, including these legends.
Blondie, Hendrix, Jagger, Rachmaninov
Bowie, McCartney, Armstrong, Fitzgerald.
Fill lobby pic in extra.
When I consider the bands and artists I've seen in this place, I wonder why they chose these from all the others. It's a bit sad to me that the photo reveals the art appears to be sticky taped to the windows. Perhaps they'll be rolled up and sold off at a later date. About the time they change the name off the venue from the one honouring the slaver and MP.
Then it was back home to visit the "consultation' event from the South Gloucestershire planning department, describing their vision of a village more than doubled in size, against the strong and clearly presented wishes of the villagers. I suspect consultations are always done to validate decisions already made.
There were lots of "ideas" about possible new facilities, but absolutely no offerings on the mitigating of thousands of additional car journeys onto already busy country lanes, and a "not fit for purpose" motorway junction. The one good thing was how many villagers came to the event to voice their opposition.
