Norwich Cathedral this morning, and I loved it. So much to see, so accessible and interesting, a fascinating place and at every turn something to catch your eye and make you want to investigate it. Outside was Edith Cavell's grave. At some point about 50 years ago, school, Brownies or Girl Guides, I did a project on her. She made quite an impression on me, and to see her grave and memorial was wonderful.
Drove to Ranworth for a pub lunch and then walked St Helen's Church where we climbed up to the top of the tower, 89 spiral steps and then a ladder, out through a hatch onto the very top, and surveyed the countryside for miles around. What a terrific view, miles of waterways and dozens of little boats, and picturesque countryside dotted with thatched roofed houses.
The medieval church itself was fascinating too, with a wonderfully painted rood screen and a 500 year old illuminated manuscript antiphoner. More about it here. Well worth a visit, a great find!
Drove on towards Wroxham and found a lovely spot for the night on the edge of some woodland. Had a good walk, lots of acorns and conkers underfoot. Ollie attempted to catch a squirrel, but it was never in any danger!
