A LOVELY WEDDING
As many of you know, I usually like to get my Blip done early in the day, but I knew that would not be possible today because we were due to attend the wedding of a some friends in Caterham.
It was the first time we had really used the Satnav in our new(ish) car and I thought we were going to be in some trouble when the "young lady" told us to come off the M4 motorway and take the M3, instead of going straight on to the M25. Mr. HCB is never very good at taking instructions from a woman but when he thinks he knows best, he can be very stroppy. However, for once in his life, he decided that he would do as he was told, and actually admitted later that perhaps "she" was right.
We hadn't seen our friend Pete, for some years, so were delighted when he wrote and told us a few months ago that he had got engaged to Pam, a lady who lived in the same retirement complex. When we got to the Church, we met Geoff, Pete's son, and hadn't seen him for even longer, so again, it was good to see him and to chat about old times. It was a lovely service, the music was great - a keyboard and three violins - the Minister was very welcoming and gave a good sermon, the hymns were good and well sung - and of course, the bride and groom looked wonderful.
After the Registers had been signed, the happy couple appeared at the vestry door, and it was a joy to see that Pam actually walked back down the aisle, having been in a wheelchair when she first arrived. It must have taken so much effort for her to do this, but the look on her face said it all.
We went back to their retirement complex for photographs followed by the reception and what a spread there was. We didn't know any other people, but soon got chatting and had a wonderful time, as you can see by the photographs.
We're not sure when we will see Pete and Pam again, but Geoff visits his sons, who live in Bath, regularly so he practically passes our door - and I wouldn't be surprised to hear him ringing our bell before too long.
We wish Pete and Pam a long and happy married life - and pray that they will be richly blessed.
We would all do well to remember the following verses:
Love is kind and patient,
never jealous, boastful,
proud, or rude.
Love isn’t selfish
or quick tempered.
It doesn’t keep a record
of wrongs that others do.
Love rejoices in the truth,
but not in evil.
Love is always supportive,
loyal, hopeful,
and trusting.
I Corinthians 13: 4-7
