Hoodoos and Bow Valley, Banff

First of two days in Banff. Drove the RV down into town for some shopping a coffee and to pick up some hiking leaflets at the Tourist Information then drove back up to the site and plugged everything back in.

We chose to walk the Hoodoo to Bow Falls trail from the trailer park to Downtown following the Bow River (which we shall see again in Calgary) a round trip of 7 miles. Today's blip is of the Hoodoos and the Bow Valley. You may just spot the hoodoos as tall spiky remnants of glacial till which were protected from erosion by a more resistant cap rock or boulder (which has since disappeared). You may also spot an Oxbow Lake to the right of the shot.

There then followed a most amazing 24 hours or so. Friends of ours for many years, who we have not seen for 4 years and who live some 8 miles from us in Gillingham. Bob is a Canadian citizen and with his wife Sue has been coming over to Canada regularly for many years as they have family over in Alberta. They're here on an extended break until early January, living in Lethbridge close to two of their 4 children. So we planned a meeting in Banff, some 4400 miles from where we both live. We could not really take in what was happening, but what was really nice was that was if we'd only seen them yesterday and not all that time ago.

We had tea and scones in the RV and talked until it got dark then realised we needed something to eat. Bob's truck took three people so he ran a shuttle service into town. Hardly pausing to draw breath we were the last out of the restaurant. A good value restaurant for Banff too, where prices seem a little on the steep side.

Bob ran a shuttle service back up to the RV before they departed for the cabin they'd rented between Banff and Canmore. A small affair but apparently great fun.

To be continued......
