Italian MIATM AB-212
I could have sworn it was a Bell Huey! Difference is that this has 2 engines making it safer and more reliable.
Great machine which has the Huey sound due to using exactly the same rotor blades.
I'm not mad about helicopters but the very distinctive sound of the Huey has been mentioned on here a few times. It's as unique as the sound of a Harley Davidson or the Merlin engine of a Spitfire.
This belongs to the Italians and did a demonstration of recovering an accident victim by stretcher.
After the display they did a flypast with the flags showing the great association and friendship between Italy and the Islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino.
Got some good video of the display but I'll post on my Photobucket when I get back to the UK and sort out my hundreds of photographs that I've taken during this holiday.
The Malta airshow was very good, not on the scale of RIAT of course, and it was disappointing that the Red Arrows can't make it but at least the crew that are most critical are in good hands and hopefully recovering well.
Met some great people, the Vulcan to the Sky hat attracted much comment and people were approaching me all day to ask me about it, or to remind me of the fatal 1975 crash over the town of Zabbar.
It was difficult to pick a photograph to display for the 29th, got some good ones of the Spitfire, but I liked the Huey display.
I have placed the arrow on the location map very delibrately where it is because we were on the old Military (RAF) side of the airfield where I used to work. Considering this airshow takes place at a commercial airport, without disturbing the normal aircraft movements of Air Malta, Ryanair, Lufthansa etc. There was little disruption to the airshow either.
