Books
These are some of the books I've brought from home to my hall. I thought that I'll probably have more time for leisure-reading and more spiritual reflecting, since I don't have to spend hours travelling up and down from one end of the island to the other. Guess I underestimated the amount of work that is to be done this semester; just the essays and projects alone are enough to make me cringe (well ok, only sometimes, that is)..!
on them books:
Max Lucado's "Come Thirsty":
I've read his "He Chose The Nails" before (given to me as a birthday gift by YingLing a few years back), really touched me deep, cried a few times to sleep while reading it.. This book, "Come Thirsty" is actually a gift that I gave Yingling on her birthday, and i asked if i could borrow it once she's done with it.. I started on one or two chapters, so now it's still there standing, waiting to be finished..
Paulo Coelho's "The Alchemist":
I've read this once before in my late teenage years, though I didn't quite fully understand the meaning behind it.. was thinking of re-reading the book in hope of further insight..
Henri J. M. Nouwen's "The Wounded Healer", "The Inner Voice of Love", and "Reaching Out":
These were books recommended to me by the Head of my placement agency, and so far I've read a few chapters in each of them, and found them fairly easy reading materials because of the simple words he uses to describe complex feelings or thoughts.. I think it's good for self reflection, whether it may be spiritually-wise or not.
C.S. Lewis' "A Grief Observed": I'd brought this along too, and had lent it to Di when she came by my room the other day~
Daisy Goodwin (ed)'s "Essential Poems (To Fall In Love With)":
This actually belongs to Shihui! haha.. it was a birthday gift given to her by friends, and when she knew I loved poetry too, she lent it to me late last year. I've yet to gotten around to read all of them yet though..!
I really like this following piece, it made me laugh out loud the first time round I read it!
Bloody Men
Bloody men are like bloody buses--
You wait for about a year--
And as soon as one approaches your stop
Two or three others appear.
You look at them flashing their indicators,
Offering you a ride.
You're trying to read the destinations,
You haven't much time to decide.
If you make a mistake, there is no turning back.
Jump off, and you'll stand there and gaze
While the cars and taxis and lorries go by
And the minutes, the hours, the days.
