beach combing...
...and a tiny snapshot of Monkey Mia 20 or so kms east of Denham where we are staying for our days in Shark Bay.
A curious name and a combination of a number of possibilities.
'Mia' is an Aboriginal term for home or shelter
and the 'Monkey' could be from;
the name of a pearling boat ( the Shark bay pearl oyster spawned a rush not unlike the gold rushes of the 1800s)
a colloquialism for 'sheep' ...yes there were sheep a plenty!
or from the monkeys Chinese pearlers brought with them.
It is gorgeous and the layers of blue salted water, white beach sand islands and red sand cliffs are the colours of this magical place (extra)
