Loudoun Hill
Sometimes called Loudon Hill, this Ayrshire landmark has important links to many periods of history, including an Iron Age settlement, a Roman fort, William Wallace and Robert the Bruce.
It loomed up out of the thick mist which had driven us away from spending more time in Ayrshire after we checked out of our hotel. Instead, we decided to go home via a different route and it was interesting to drive through little towns and villages that were new to us.
Ironically, we ended up at Bannockburn where I photographed the iconic monument to King Robert the Bruce (see extras) before heading for home with the low cloud staying with us most of the way.
We thoroughly enjoyed our short break (with the exception of my unfortunately timed episode of feeling ill) and - as the saying goes - a change is as good as a holiday:-)
