La Rochelle
Today we brushed of the sand, packed up and cycled back to the mainland and then around La Rochelle on the rather tortuous cycle routes into the centre, and finally to our in two camp site. After putting up the tend on half a plot (we may have to share - even though the campsite is more than half empty) we set off to explore the city.
They are gradually removing vehicular access from the town and making more and more of it cycle/pedestrian only, but it's not complete and the buses and taxis can still whiz about the place too!
Today's pictures are the Saint Saviour's church (main blip) against a sunny sky, the two iconic harbour entrance towers (from inside and outside) and the Lantern Tower which is a few hundred metres along the ramparts from the nearest of the harbour towers.
The day started dull and overcast, got nice and sunny by the time I took the main picture and had started to go flat and dull again by the time I took pictures of the towers...
When we returned to the campsite we discovered we had neighbours, a nice Australian couple who were repairing their inner tubes from their bikes, from the half a dozen punctures they had picked up that day! So far we've only had one puncture and that wasn't critical so we've been really lucky!
