What No Buffers !

Well it was back to work after a week off although I had been on holiday just before that so technically have only worked three days in September so it was a hard shift sitting spare this morning as scheduled engineering work on the East Cost Main Line meant it was not opening until this afternoon So after my Bagel and Costa Coffee I wandered around the station for a blip and this is my shot in between two of the coaches on an Electric class 380 which can be seen running to North Berwick and back so as you can see in the picture there are no buffers anymore on these one you can see a grid like square these are called Oleo Anti Climbers and are used in case of collisions as the old style trains would rise over the old buffers and could crush through to the next coach but when these collide in tests the teeth stick together and and the teeth eliminate the coaches rising up over each other taking most of the impact in the framework so no crushing of other cabs thankfully so another we insight into modern rolling stock equipment and how it is there for the safety of passengers and crew
