Red-Headed Woodpecker
It certainly isn't my best shot of a bird, but it was the best I got of this bird, which is one that I have never seen before.
Wendy and I went to Huntley Meadows very early this morning and it was quite beautiful as always. Every time we go it looks a little different and we see something new. Today, in addition to the herons and egrets, there were lots of bluebirds, warblers and several gorgeous Red-Headed Woodpeckers. Unfortunately, this one was far and high, but we enjoyed watching it collecting acorns from the Oak tree and depositing them in a hole near the top of a dead tree. Another photographer we chatted with said that these birds hadn't been seen for years in this area and only started appearing about two years ago.
