The North Sea
Had to blip our view of the North Sea.... with the ruined St. Andrews castle ... the day started cloudy but quickly cleared with that sun shining bright. Again! Off to Culross Palace in Fife ... it's not a palace but a rich inventive coal merchants house from 1597,, .with great painted walls. Small rooms and a guide that I think was a witch.., she knew all about the ghosts there. H hated her tour ( too long, too claustrophobic) but I really liked it.. especially since Outlander was filmed there and in this little village .. Clare got her herbs from the big garden... very fun. (:-)).
Then to St. Andrews where we had time to explore on our own.. others toured this castle but H and I did walk all over the town seeing the university and another abbey ruins, having excellent coffee and panini at Taste but we used our museum time for the Golf Museum! Did you know that the adult had played golf from at least the 1300s?? And watching golfers on the old course. getting some photos for our golf pro son. ( we were here with him I'm 1990 but oh my a very different dark blustery day ).
Then on to a lovely hotel in the country a bit north near Kenmore with a fine dinner at this hotel full of plaids and wood and deer antlers. (. we're starting to meet everyone...) and a pretty energetic demonstration by Gillie a female piper who played at Edinburgh castle for 40 years .... her kids and grandkids also okay with a band, No one dared try her pipes. .
Enough for one day,
