Last Day

Little Sparta closed for the season today.  The artist didn't want folk to see the garden in its winter state and, anyway, there is much maintenance to be done and some of the paths are becoming very slippery.

There were quite a number of visitors today including one young lady whose father had collaborated with Ian Hamilton-Findlay so she was able to see the results of her father's work.  One lady was visiting from Vancouver Island - she was a retired geologists doing a fine art degree.  She had come across the garden on her studies and was thinking of doing her dissertation around his work.

The blip is of Apollo chasing Daphne through the woods.  The guide book tells us it was an amorous pursuit.  It didn't end happily though - she was transformed into a laurel tree when she prayed to the gods for escape.
