A Fall Still Life

Dear Diary,

Yesterday was the Cornish Apple Festival and the town was packed.  Every store along the small main street created a festive autumn still life arrangement by their front doors.  This is a tradition around here.  People decorate their houses to celebrate the harvest season too.  I usually do but this year I won't bother.   I will be going to the hospital tomorrow for per-surgery tests and, frankly, I am not in much of a festive mood.

The temperatures are hovering around 32F this morning, a light frost out there.  Not a great time to have no heat.  My furnace needs a new burner and it can't be installed until Wednesday so Emerson and I will make do with electric heaters and the gas log fireplace.  If it gets bad, there is always the wood stove. When I think of what the people in Puerto Rico are suffering because of the hurricane, my little issue pales by comparison.
