Spitfire LA198

I attended an event last night at Kelvingrove Art Gallery where this Spitfire is on display. It is a Mark 21 spitfire which was built in 1944 and it flew with the 602 squadron between 1947 and 1949. It then became a gate guardian at RAF Leuchars. In 1996 it was given to the City of Glasgow as a memorial to the squadron and after it's restoration was on display at the Museum of Transport. It moved to Kelvingrove as part of the refurbishment over 10 years ago.

What a wonderful venue. I managed to have a wander around some of the exhibits but need to go back. The last time I visited was in the early '90s when I lived just around the corner from it.
