Pelican
In Loutraki there has been a waterfront taverna called Flisvos for as long as anybody can remember, though I don't imagine that it has always been under the current management. Other restaurants appear and disappear fairly regularly; Panagioti's disappeared, Despina's appeared and disappeared, and now Cafe Aramis is having a go at being a full restaurant as well as a snack bar.
Greek has an entire vocabulary dedicated to the wide range of eateries available;
An ouzeri has perhaps half a dozen dishes of the day keeping warm in a bain-marie
A psistaria is a grill shop serving basic grilled meats and salads
An estiatorio is an a la carte restaurant
The word taverna covers all of the above but a psarotaverna is a place which, as well as other items, will also serve grilled fresh fish.
Flisvos has always been an estiatorio-psarotaverna, and a very good one at that. This summer we have been surprised to see notices going up all over the place refering to 'Aramis Psarotaverna' because we still think of it as a snack-bar recently extended to include an ouzeri.
A surprising new arrival in Loutraki is this pelican which, while native to Greece, is not common in this particular neighbourhood. A little research leads me to conclude that it is a juvenile Great White which has become separated from its flock during migration. Spoilt for choice with two alleged psarotavernas, it has voted with its feet and hangs out at Flisvos. Smart bird!
