Historic Day
Lovely homely morning of homework checking over breakfast and dog walk along the river.
Home for quick change and head into town to meet Sue & Vernee to be tourists at the Houses of Parliament. Self-guided audio tour was perfectly pitched with just the right amount of information and optional extra bits for when you wanted to know a bit more. And guided you through from the older monarchy led system to the House of Lords and the House of Commons and all the developments along the way. As neither House is sitting we were allowed pretty much everywhere and it was fascinating to walk through the lobbies and the chambers. Bonus spot of Dennis Skinner hanging around the House of Commons chamber.
We had hoped to have lunch in the Peers Dining Room but sadly it was fully booked so we’ll have to put that on the list for next year (it’s only open to the public when the old buffers don’t need their spotted dick to get them through the afternoon). So we slummed it with the set menu at the Cinnamon Club instead.
Home before the troops returned from school to pick up the homework baton, make dinner, take Anna to her dance classes, walk the dog and settle down for a not at all relaxing viewing of the finale of Doctor Foster.
Missing Carlos in NYC but it has been a really lovely day.
No photography allowed in most of the HoP so here’s a plaque from the floor of Westminster Hall which is the start of the tour and one of the only places where you could take photos. Henry VIII and The Reformation is the main period of history I studied so although the trip was mainly about all the stuff I didn’t know I was drawn to this plaque.
