Mushrooms
There's quite a story attached to these colourful mushrooms. CCN and I have had a lovely time over the past couple of days working on rejuvenating them and giving them a whole new start in life.
Way back in 2004 I was doing the first year trade course in Cabinet Making and one of the skills we learnt was wood turning and I really loved that aspect of the course. One weekend I went along to a Club wood turning challenge in the Blue Mountains and one of the clubs managed to turn and decorate every single one of these mushrooms in An hour. It was their entry in the challenge and it won first prize.
I just loved them, particularly as they were all mounted on the most beautiful piece of drift wood. The club president was quite amazed when I approached him and asked what they intended to do with their entry. After a bit of negotiation they agreed to sell them to me for the price of a donation to the club and a charity of my choice. I chose the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
They have been looking a lot worse for wear over the past couple of years and yesterday we set ourselves up outside with paint brushes and paint tins in hand and started the job of decorating them (see extra). I have to say, we are absolutely delighted with the result and I'm sure my friend who is still in the club will be thrilled to know that after 13 years the mushroom sculpture is still going strong. I'm going to send her this image :-)
