Cave house

In the pasture of the Geulemerberg, there were several open-chapeled spaces that used to be in the past as cave houses.
Some of the primitive ancient caves were occupied until around 1900 by blockbreakers, zealous people who earned their bread by breaking marl blocks in the mountain. The living room was exceptionally soberly decorated. Walls and attic were sometimes stained with lime or slightly colored with some light blue dye.
For the rental allowance they were then paid 4 cents a month or 50 cents a year.
Restoration of some cave houses took place in 1976.
