The Neighbour

If he was a time bomb
no one noticed him ticking.

If he harboured dark thoughts
no one saw them set sail on the high seas.

If there was thunder in his brain
no distant rumblings were detected.

He was in the wings, out of the spotlight,
under the radar;

a waiting wound, a future scar.
But once it had happened,

after he'd revealed himself
and his face disgraced the screens and front pages,

a neighbour told reporters
that living next door to him

was like living next door
to nothing.

What's he building in there?
