New (no) River (no)

Waterway built from Amwell Springs to London in 1613 - 400 years ago, yet still called new.  Takes time for us to get used to such things. Still in use and usually flowing strongly with fresh water to supply the metropolis, but today, something's gone awry.  Or maybe it's due for some maintenance.
