Common Enchantments

A little watercolory pink today

to remind us that October is breast cancer awareness month.

My sister in law died from breast cancer over 20 years ago.  She was only in her mid 40s.    Her daughter had her first mammogram at 35 just to have a starting point and so far she is good.    A friend of my son's had a single mastectomy at 40.  She only went to get her mammogram in support of one of her coworkers who had breast cancer.    It was a fortunate thing that she did.  My cousin Pat, died from aggressive breast cancer and her sister Gail has been treated for  breast cancer and is now in remission.  Her cancer spread to a tiny portion of her lung which was operable and she is well now.  A friend's mom had two lumpectomies in the past 6 months, now she is cancer free.      Friends, family and coworkers all have been touched in some way by breast cancer.

So ladies,  get the mammogram, learn to do self exams, click on this  mammolink where it will donate a free mammogram to someone.

My former work place has a ladies group that sponsors a golf tournament every year in October to spread awareness of breast cancer. We started this before I retired and usually earn between $3000-5000.  They give the proceeds to our local breast cancer center at the hospital.   The money provides wigs and breast prosthesis for patients who are unable to afford them.  Most insurances do not cover wigs and few cover a prosthesis.  This goes a long way to helping these women feel better about themselves during this traumatic experience.

I don't play golf but I do donate to this local charity.    Every tiny bit helps.
