What is this?

Looking at the autumn hedgerows this afternoon I saw this and I wondered if someone could tell me what it is? It is obviously evergreen and may be a cultivated plant escaping from a garden but I have not noticed this odd fruit/flower before.
I also noticed one bramble branch rather lagging behind the rest as it was  displaying some flowers and unripe fruit (see extra) while  all the others had shrivelled finished ripe fruit.
