Thursday Night in a Small Town

We had a statue unveiling tonight in our small town. A local businessman and his wife donated it.

It is entitled...The Game.

The story goes...way back in 1837, a bunch of men got together to name the town, and a poker game was involved. The game got down to these 3 guys. From left to right...it is Mr. Fenton, Mr. Leroy, and Mr. Rockwell.

Mr. Rockwell was the first out, so he got a side street named after him. Now, it was down to two...Fenton and Leroy.

Mr. Fenton won the hand, so he got the city named after him. That's the name of our city...Fenton, Michigan. Mr. Leroy lost, so he got to name the main street after himself. The post office where Shelley (Naturelover) and I worked was on S. Leroy Street.

There you have it...in bronze and in print...the history of our city.

There were perhaps 200 people that showed up for the unveiling. Judging from the way people reacted...there are going to be a LOT of pictures taken with their subject occupying the empty chair.

Such fun, and a fine gift to the city.
