Downside Abbey
Weather back to being more seasonal today, windy and a bit damp. We headed out to visit Downside Abbey in Stratton-on-the-Fosse. It is the home of the community of St Gregory the Great and they are Benedictine Monks. There is a large private school attached to the Abbey.
My maternal grandmother and her family are from this part of the world. Sadly I don't know much about my family history and my grandmother died over 25 years ago. Will have to quiz Mum but she's always quite vague about it all. The Abbey is not really on the tourist trail, they're not really geared up for tourist either but that meant we had the Abbey to ourselves for majority of our visit. The nearby Catholic Church was closed, it would have been nice to see inside as I know Grandma used to go th Church there.
We headed back to camp for a late lunch, the rain stopped so we headed out with Ted, he's a very sleepy hound, it's been a busy week of walking.
Final night in the tent before we head home. This is one of the best campsites we've stayed on, quiet, great facilities, helpful and happy staff all makes for a very relaxing break.
