Messy church

I took the boys to 'messy church' this morning, More for the messiness than the church bit, although the boys aren't really very good at the messy bit - they're a little bit too messy.... there was one activity painting stars on a sheet using a template - the eldest thought that putting handprints and basically any kind of paint on was the order of the day.  I hastily put some stars over the top to try and hide them after a few comments were made.

We managed to embarrass ourselves twice.... once when I was in the loo and the eldest was in there with me and decided to try and open the door, when we did get out, there was someone waiting, smiling at us having overheard my firmly explaining that the door was not to be opened.  Then, when the youngest needed changing, we were back in the smallest room, and my requests to both boys not to touch anything were going unheard, and became increasingly firm (again) and probably louder than needed.  This time, when we emerged, it turned out that messy church and turned to the church bit and the place was silent.  Oh dear.

This afternoon, I attempted to do something I've never done before... mow the lawn, it was my attempt to help the husband who needs as much time at his desk as possible.  So, (after needing the husband to start the damn thing for me), I mowed a couple of lines.  Stopped, husband came out to say something - and the eldest touched the engine of the lawn mower.  He spent the next 20 minutes with his hand under the tap, stifled his tears as best he could and has one huge blister on one finger and a pretty big one on another.  My poor little boy. The lawn - we made a pact that it's going to get left until after the dissertation.
