Shanghai 30s
My eldest son is visiting and this evening we ate out to celebrate his birthday at Shanghai 30s which is, without doubt, the best Chinese restaurant in Oxford.
It is situated in a fifteenth century building that used to house the Restuarant Elizabeth, the most expensive and celebrated Oxford restaurant, renowned for attracting celebrities. For many years after the Elizabeth closed it looked as if the building would fall into neglect but the Shanghai 30s owner and staff have turned the place into a superb restaurant with the ambience of the gourmet world of Shanghai in the 30s.
My favourite dish is prawn stuffed aubergines cooked in a lemon soy sauce but I fully recommend browsing the menu, the starters are all delicious (I've rarely progressed beyond the starters and my aubergine dish - I'll just have to eat here more often...).
My pictures of the food were all rubbish though so there's another reason to return.
