Jamie's Harrogate

A trip up the A1 and A1(M) to Harrogate to pick up Doreen from Barbara and David who had driven down from Edinburgh this morning.

Apart from the usual quota of suicidal motorists it was a generally trouble free run except towards the end when the sat nav wanted to take us through Wetherby rather than continue along the main road and come off at J47.

This is our third visit to the Travelodge at Harrogate West. It's been a good stopping off place on various trips. We feel we've got to know the town a little over the course of our visits.

As we had a Tastecard we went for a meal at Jamie Oliver's place on Parliament Street. Compared with my only other experience at a Jamie restaurant in Edinburgh this was a surprisingly good meal.

Finally we stopped off at the Tap on Tower Street pub outside the hotel which in the end turned out to very pleasant. Initially we were disgruntled as we were charged £20 for 2 flights of three 1/3 pints of beer but a word with the manager revealed that there was an issue with the till. The flight cost referred to three glasses of wine! So we were reimbursed £10 and given an other glass of our choice for our inconvenience. I like it when an organisation puts things right and go out of their way to apologise rather than make excuses. Well done the Tap Room.
