Garden politics

Are the private gardens of Edinburgh meant to be peaceful parks or play areas? This question has been debated by our neighbours for as long as we can remember.

Recently our garden committee voted that it would be permissible for the parents of three children under four to put up a "subtle" climbing frame (at their own expense) in a sheltered spot at the far end of the garden. I ventured out to inspect it this morning. I must say that I am impressed. If only I were four years old myself...
