MonoMonday: Still LIfe
JDO is supervising MonoMonday this month (thanks Jill), and in honour of today being photographer Don McCullin's birthday she's chosen Still Life as the theme.
I set up a composition of garden tools and junk in the greenhouse this afternoon. (Yes, I did have to clear lots of stuff out to make space !). But the idea didn't really work as I couldn't separate the composition from the background, even using a wide aperture. So I waited until it was dark, set the camera on a tripod and tried light painting with a torch to light only what I wanted. (I'd not tried light painting before, but it was quite easy using the "Live Bulb" function on the Olympus which allows you to monitor the image building up.)
Why the old tennis ball on the garden cane? - I've seen too many folks who'd pranged their eyes on the tip of a cane so I like to protect my cane tips. Some gardeners use corks but I find old tennis balls, with a small hole in them, work very well.
