La Recoleta
The hotel is not far from La Recoleta so I headed off in that direction this morning and arranged to meet my lovely conference co-chairs in the afternoon. Anyone and everyone who’s played a part in the history of Argentina since the 1820s is buried here: politicians, poets, priests, explorers, presidents, generals, writers. Big mausoleums; smaller apartments for the less affluent families. I didn’t like it. Some of the tombs are in ruins, revealing steps into crypts and exposing coffins that were once left there to lay in peace, not for tourists. Or locals. Who’s looking after these dead?
I've managed to upload some of my other photos to my Flicker account. Catch them here, if you are curious.
