Through a lens darkly

Rising

This is one of the many sculptures on campus. I thought the textured surface looked glorious in the morning sunlight - I can't help stroking the smooth carrara marble ridges.

This piece is called Rising and is by Dominic Welch.

On my walk up the hill towards the Physics tower, I saw one of the many industrious groundskeepers busy at work weeding a flower bed. She had placed a bottle of milk on one of the rocks, and it intrigued me - maybe she was going to paint it on them to encourage lichen? I asked her what it was for. She said "for my tea!"
