God of All Ugly Things
My Dear Fellows & Princess Normal,
A number of things happened today:
1) Er Indoors flew to Tauranga to spend a week working up there. She'll be working out of Big Nipper's office and spending the evenings with her mum.
2) This means I am home alone with the boys.
3) This means fish suppers and Hammer horror movies because some things do not change no matter what continent I'm on.
4) I went to the Weta Cave. This is where they do the special effects for films such as Lord of the Rings, Avatar and the new Blade Runner. Also "Braindead" - this is the film which features the rat-monkey pictured above. As well as a kung-foo vicar. I like classy movies like that.
5) I'll be honest. It was only okay. Perhaps I'm jaded. The Universal Studios tour was more fun. Mainly because Er Indoors nearly wazzed herself when Jaws attacked our tour-buggy. I was very sympathetic as you might imagine.
6) I got the job. I start on Monday. I felt a weird emotion wash over me when I got the news. It was like a mixture of "Yay!" and "Eff!" at the same time. I mean, it will be nice to have money coming in but it also means my holiday is over. Fu-yay.
7) And then I was like, "Monday?!? Seriously?? Monday???" Whatever happened to government inefficiency? When I got the job at Scottish government they took FOUR WEEKS to get me clearance to enter the building. God effing dammit.
8) Monday? Really?!?
So that was today. I did learn a couple of interesting facts.
1) The cable car isn't the only cable car in Wellington. In fact there are around 300 of them! Most of them are private cable-cars though. I saw a picture of one at the cable-car museum. It looked like a man in a wheelie-bin attached to a bit of bungy-cord. But then today I saw one for real which looked more like a Stannah Stairlift with a Sinclair C5 on top.
2) I knew that Weta studios was named after New Zealand's big bug, the weta. What I didn't know is that the Maori name for the giant weta is wetapunga which means "God of All Ugly Things"*.
I do hope you enjoyed todays bullet-pointed update. I feel more like a Business Analyst already.

* Or "piersmorgan", if one is in Britain.
