The Martians are coming

I had friend R staying overnight and thought that visiting the Martian in Woking would be fun. This is my first visit despite living in the area for many years. It is in Woking because Horsell common is just outside Woking where the Martians land in HG Wells, War Of theWorlds. This was just one of today's adventures with R!

We started off our day with a visit to Brookwood cemetery to find the grave of Robert Knox...the recipient of corpses provided by Burke and Hare. Having had a stone placed on the grave by the Edinburgh Royal College of Surgeons in the 1960's, it looks like it has been neglected ever since. Then we visited what we thought was just a chapel on the grounds and found ourselves in an amazing Orthodox church which is well worth a visit.
After lunch we went on a successful book hunt in Camberley's charity shops followed by R's departure.
