Matera

A really lovely old place, and this shows the cave dwelling where the population used to live. These dwellings were carved out of the stones and anything up to 11/15 people would live in them with their animals. The villagers who lived here were told to move to new homes that had been built for them, - the last ones moving out in the 1960's!
